DRF meetings have been the most awaited ones for fellows and practicing VR Surgeons. DRM 2017 also kept its promise to add valuable learnings for all of us.
Day-1 highlights were an interactive workshop on ICG – this coincided with retina community’s renewed interest in choroidal disorders along with rising popularity of OCTA.
Afternoon, we had “in depth” discussion on key issues related to Diabetic Vitrectomy. Diabetic vitrectomies can present variety of challenges to VR Surgeons and this was one area where we learnt a lot from each other’s experiences. Evening’s highlight was challenging clinical cases where analytical skills of our esteemed panelists was tested by presenters. We also had a collection of challenging intraoperative issues where a right approach resulted in successful outcome. The team of experts discussed and issected this “right approach”
Day-2 started with a novice session – Prove your point. This Session was very well received by our delegates and international faculty. The less conventional approaches like foveal aspiration of hard exudates were vividly discussed and generated great excitement. This session gave innovators an opportunity to present their approach and discuss the rationale behind it with panelists and audience who critically analyzed this “unconventional approach”.
Next, we had none other than Prof. J Nawrocki who pioneered “Inverted Flap technique”. Along him we also had Dr. Hany Hanza and Dr. Lingum Gopal. Together, they touched upon most relevant and important aspects of Macular Hole Surgery. This was a great update for all of us and Prof. Nawrocki demonstrated some of his future innovations like temporal flap also.
Day-2 ended with all the updates on intravitreal injections and choroidal imaging.
Core team once again ensured that the meeting stays in discussion format and benefits the attendee.
